Sharing pictures of our wonderful Findhorn Garden Week!
written by Britta Schmitz
What an amazing joy it was to be with our Findhorn Garden: Co-creating with Nature’s Intelligence Week! As I am writing this I feel so much gratitude for the beauty of the experience! Co-creating with each other and with nature, what an amazing gift. Together with the wonderful Yuko I had the honour to host the week and I can say I’d do it all over again just as it was. When you see the pictures, you might understand why…
On Saturday the 4th of July, Yuko and I met in the Park Garden’s lovely meeting space called ‘Moontree’ to prepare and bless the room for our participants.
Later on we welcomed eight people from all over the world: South Korea, Spain, USA, India, Africa, plus Yuko from Japan and me from Germany. What an interesting group to start our journey with.

What we did during the week
I imagine the pictures will tell you more than words could do, so please enjoy these photos of some of the things we enjoyed…
✨ Picking our personal Angel cards and our group angel of ‘Healing’ in the Light of Findhorn Sanctuary at the start of our week.
✨ Enjoying a guided walk through the Park Ecovillage and Cullerne Gardens with Pip and a guided beach walk with Joern around the Findhorn Peninsula and the original Findhorn Village, creating a Nature Mandala on the beach along the way.
✨Hearing from Ash about our core practice of Inner Listening, learning a movement exercise which helps us to stay in our own centre even in difficult times, and coming closer together as a group through dance and group discovery games with Yvonne.
✨ Embodying Work as Love in Action in the Original Garden. Weeding, planting out, strengthening the mint, cutting the paths free…
✨Talking with Angus about how we can create community anywhere and everywhere.
✨ Getting cosy on a rainy night in my living room watching films about our community’s history. You can watch one of them below, it’s only nine minutes.
✨ Spending time in the Edible Woodland Garden and Moontree with Judy, exploring how to attune to and co-create with nature's intelligence.
✨Learning from Craig and Tara about sustainable living and permaculture in their Whisky Barrel home, enjoying some hands on work, a house tour and a lovely tea break in their wild and wonderful garden.
✨ Following Jonathan Caddy into the Original Caravan (where he was born and grew up) and learning about the wilder land, the woods and dunes that are looked after by the Findhorn Hinterland Trust just beyond the Ecovillage. Exploring the rare lichen of the area and a ‘tea break’ with cool drinks were some of the highlights of this hot day in the North of Scotland.
✨ Practicing Being the Voice of Nature with Janice in the flower garden, called Flora.
✨ Hearing from Alan about how he followed his inner voice to re-plant the Caledonian forest and how we can all be open to the nudges that want to push us onwards on our path.
✨ Working with the next step process and making a commitment to what we would like to do next on our life’s journey.
✨ Sharing songs, stories and poems on our final evening in the Earth Lodge while a rare thunder storm with wind and rain was raging outside. (Can you see how the candle has been rained out in the last picture?)
✨ Eating meals which were lovingly prepared with local produce by Daisy and Mohini - we even had two lunches in Mohini’s beautiful family home at Findhorn village. Once we shelled beans which we harvested the day before in the Original Garden. Most meals took place in Cornerstone, where some of our participants stayed. For many years it was the home of community co-founder Eileen Caddy.
✨ Allowing the magic to happen in the in-between spaces, during our unstructured time, mealtimes, meditations in the Light of Findhorn Sanctuary, Taize singing, beach walks, journaling, reading… Memorable moments like meeting Gus, the much loved and sociable community cat, creating an ‘office’ outside Cornerstone, learning about Korean sun protection and how to transport two wheelbarrows at once. :)
What our participants say about the week…
“Such beautiful photos that really capture the feelings of those days, the lush beauty of the gardens and the land and the sweetness of our gatherings.
This week in Findhorn “Co-Creating With Nature’s Intelligence” focalised by Britta and Yuko was one of the most marvellous, inspiring, healing, joyous and delicious experiences of my life. The bonds formed between our group will last a lifetime.”
“I came here to Findhorn to heal. I not only healed from traumas and unfairness, I came to realise that I have the peace and strength I need. To harness the power of love is my goal to start a project that heals the earth.
I miss Findhorn so much! So much of my perspective in life has changed profoundly since coming there. I can’t stop thinking of Alan Watson Featherstone, as I gaze at the fields of sheep I see them mostly as agribusiness now. I have barely been able to eat meat since I left. I had no idea how I would see everything so differently!!”
“Although we can’t fly like birds, can’t dive like fish, we are still interwoven together by nature.”
“Findhorn is a wonderful place and the community gave me insight. I feel love and peace here. Everyone was so nice to me. The plants were so beautiful and lovely.”
“During the Findhorn Garden week I got up very early one morning and watched the sunrise through the trees of the Hinterland. As I was walking around I stumbled across a stone mandala in the sands. I walked to the middle and out again in bare feet asking for a land anchor somewhere. As I walked I felt the vibrations going into the Earth with my request. Ever since then my feet have felt very sensitive. So now I wait. Feeling the land wherever I may be.”
