🌍 Wherever you are around the globe

Each year on 21 September, the United Nations observes the International Day of Peace, a day dedicated to strengthening the ideals of peace through 24 hours of non-violence and ceasefire.

The UN theme for 2026 is:

Invest in Peace: For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day.

In response to this global call, the Findhorn community will join people around the world in moving from hoping for peace to practising peace.

The Islands of Coherence Meditation Sangha (who host Saturday meditations for calm and coherence inspired by David Spangler’s subtle activism) invites everyone in Park Ecovillage Findhorn - and friends of Findhorn everywhere - to join a 24-hour Peace Vigil in the Light of Findhorn Sanctuary.

Beginning at noon on Monday 21 September and continuing until noon on Tuesday 22 September, the Vigil will offer an unbroken field of silent presence and shared intention. Anyone who has joined our 21 December Solstice Spiral will recognise this practice, long held here. Come for a few minutes, stay for an hour, or volunteer to hold a period of the Vigil on behalf of us all.

From a silent minute to a 24-hour Vigil

The Vigil grows naturally from Judy McAllister’s invitation to BE PEACE.

Earlier this year, Judy recalled the Silent Minute initiated by Wellesley Tudor Pole during the Second World War. Each evening, as Big Ben sounded at 9pm, people were invited to enter one minute of shared silence. Judy renewed this practice for our own times with a beautifully simple invitation:

The only task for one whole minute is to BE PEACE. Not to pray for it. Not to wish for it. Not to send it somewhere it may be needed. Simply BE PEACE.
— Judy McAllister

Since the BE PEACE invitation was shared at the March Equinox, members of the local Findhorn community and our wider global network have been pausing for one minute at noon each day. Across different places and time zones, these individual minutes create a wave of peace travelling around the Earth.

Our Peace Vigil will begin and end with this same minute of silence—a portal through which we enter and leave the shared field of Peace.

Local Practice, Global Reach

This call has particular resonance for the Findhorn Foundation. In June 2026, the Foundation was granted Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)

This recognition builds upon more than three decades of engagement with the United Nations and creates new opportunities for Findhorn to contribute its experience of transformative education, sustainable human settlements and the cultivation of a culture of peace. As the Findhorn Foundation’s recent article, Local Practice, Global Reach, reminds us, global aspirations become meaningful when they are lived and practised at a human scale.

Our Peace Vigil is one such practice.

It will also connect Findhorn with the Global Peace Activation, joining more than 150 participating communities around the world in a coordinated expression of peace. Each gathering becomes a node of coherence, where local presence contributes to a much larger field.

How to Take Part

🏘️Locally at Ecovillage Findhorn

For local Peace Holders, the Vigil will be held in silence in the Light of Findhorn Sanctuary from noon on 21 September until noon on 22 September, as we approach the September Equinox.

You are warmly invited to participate in either or both of these ways:

  • Sign up on the rota to serve as a Peace Vigil Holder for a particular period.

  • Come to the Sanctuary at any time during the 24 hours and add your silent presence to the Vigil.

🌍 Globally Wherever You Are

If you are joining from anywhere else in the world, you are invited to pause wherever you are — at noon, or at any time during the Vigil — and simply BE PEACE with us.

At this turning point in the year, may we become what we long to see in the world.

See Peace
Send Peace
Be Peace

All are welcome.
