The Boston-based fiddler/vocalist and song-writer, Laura Cortese has built a distinguished career following a path that led her to be one of the most in-demand musical partners and collaborators on the circuit while continuing at the same time, to make her own music… However it is as Laura Cortese and The Dance Cards that she has made the biggest impact. The band's elegant music, schooled in the lyrical rituals of folk music and backed by grooves that alternately inspire Cajun two-stepping and rock 'n' roll swagger. They also use inspiration from Americana and pop greats and lush fiddle stylings root their music in a folk tradition. Mariel Vandersteel's sensitive fiddle accompaniments, and Valerie Thompson's rock-solid cello grooves ground Cortese's dreamy, poetic vocals which are as modern and savvy as they come.
