Northern Harmony(An Earthsings event) Northern Harmony have a wide reputation for the their command of varied world singing styles. These range from rowdy American shape-note songs and bright Balkan tones to dark, sonorous Georgian harmonies, rhythmic South African songs, and ornamented Corsican polyphony. The concert program includes a variety of songs: Georgian; Corsican paghjella and sacred; South African with dances; and contemporary American shape-note. Also featured is a group of settings of Psalm 42 including German versions by Heinrich Schütz and Hugo Distler, and American by William Billings and Timothy Swan. The current ensemble is led by Larry Gordon and Patty Cuyler and features special guest Ketevan Mindorashvili, director of the Zedashe Ensemble from Georgia. Tonight is their full concert and Wednesday will be the participatory evening.
