The Garden (Film)

Saturday 26th Feb 2011

Part of the Take One Action! Film Festival and supported by Regional Screen Scotland and The Co-operative. Described as "tight, gripping, a classic story" by the Chicago Tribune, The Garden, like Budrus (see Feb 25th), is another documentary celebrating “people and movies that can change the world” – the slogan of Take One Action! Largely run by Latin American migrants, the community garden at 41st and Alameda in South Central Los Angeles is the largest of its kind in the United States. From here, families grow their own food, feed themselves and create a community. But now, bulldozers are poised to level their oasis… This dramatic Academy Award-nominated documentary follows the community as they speak out, demand answers and fight back.
