The pilgrim experiences the magic, the mystery and the sacredness of all life in every step and this retreat will combine the opportunity of gently guided meditative walks, reconnection with the beauty and healing powers of Nature, and time to simply relax and enjoy the simplicity of island life.
The retreat is about treading lightly and lovingly upon our beautiful Earth and making every step a prayer and a blessing, while consciously listening to the inner whispers of wisdom and knowing.
For many centuries the Isle of Iona has been a place of pilgrimage and during the past four decades Traigh Bhan, the Foundation’s retreat house on this sacred island, has appealed to modern-day pilgrims seeking a quiet and intimate space for contemplation and renewal.
The house is comfortable and adequately equipped, with its own peaceful sanctuary for reflection and prayer, offering quiet space to reflect on your own journey or next steps. It is a chance to slow down, let go of otherworld busyness, and sink into the supportive and co-creative space of a mini-community sharing accommodation and the preparation and enjoyment of simple vegetarian meals.
Participation is limited to a maximum of six retreatants.
Our time together on Iona has been a great source for renewal and it has given me greater clarity about the road ahead. Another good thing for me is a deeper understanding of pilgrimage.
I wrote in my diary:
“The art of pilgrimage is knowing what your real needs are,
is not taking more than needed,
is returning something for everything received – a smile, a blessing, an act of gratefulness,
is walking lightly on the Earth,
is praying with your feet,
is welcoming everything as a gift,
is trusting, not giving-up,
is staying true to your vision, your heart’s whisper,
is daring to draw boundaries where they might be needed,
is not judging but welcoming everyone with an open heart,
is asking all the time ‘what would love do?’
is blessing every creature along the road,
is surrendering to the Mystery of life.”
Our quoted prices are fully inclusive of participation in the workshop or retreat, accommodation (maximum 6 guests) in shared rooms (including towels and linen) and vegetarian food for shared meals. Arrival time is midday Saturday, and departure time is the next Saturday morning.
