Telling stories from our own lives invites us to look at our past and consider what is worth passing on into the future.
This workshop provides an introduction to the delights and challenges of telling true life tales. Working with stories from your own life that you would like to share with family, friends or even an invited audience, we will work with the qualities and skills needed to tell these stories well.
There will also be time to explore questions such as: Has anything worth speaking about ever happened to me? What makes telling a story different from talking about our lives over a cup of tea? And ultimately, how can the shaping and crafting of personal stories illuminate what it means to be human?
Suitable for people with or without previous storytelling experience who are at least 28 years of age.
“I’ve never really been that interested in storytelling (and didn’t think I could do it myself), but the theme of this workshop really caught my eye… could this be a different way to explore the story of my life other than through therapy? It certainly was! Sue created such a welcoming, loving and playful space that, much to my amazement, I found myself standing in front of an audience telling my story one evening, even though I’d been saying I definitely wasn’t going to do this. The workshop felt such a safe place to explore whatever came up, and it was a humbling experience to witness the blossoming of each person’s story as it unfolded, especially being aware that some stories were not easy ones to tell.” Pat – previous programme participant
