Deepening Your Presence Through...

Deepening Your Presence Through the Healing Art of Esalen® Massage

Mon 22 October 2018 (5 Days)
Mika Oishi

Esalen Massage Intensive

Esalen® Massage is a unique form of bodywork developed at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California. Known for its long integrating strokes, this method creates an experience of deep relaxation, supporting the natural ability of body and mind to self-heal.

In this workshop we will learn how to use various stretches safely, and we will learn how to use Deep Bodywork®, created by Perry Holloman, as a method that integrates the qualities of a flowing Esalen Massage with the therapeutic effectiveness of deep tissue work into an overall session.

We will practise these techniques in a way that protects the integrity of our own bodies while releasing and unwinding deep-seated tensions in the people we touch, allowing their tissues time to open and change.

The workshop will also serve as a refresher for basic Esalen Massage techniques such as the long stroke, but will then explore more in-depth strokes and bodywork techniques. We will support our explorations with morning practices like meditation, yoga and other movement disciplines to experience the qualities of awareness and flowing presence central to this method.

This workshop is for people with at least some experience of practising massage. Spa practitioners and therapists in particular will benefit, but non-professionals with previous massage experience are also welcome.

Tiered Pricing: £1020 / £760 / £630

Our quoted prices are fully inclusive of participation in the workshop or event, accommodation in our guest rooms (including towels and linen), all meals and refreshments, and full access to our community facilities like our meditation sanctuaries. Some facilities, like our saunas and hot tub, ask for a donation for use.

Before you book your place, please take a moment to consider that the Findhorn Foundation is a Charitable Trust. We believe that the benefits of holistic learning should be available to everyone regardless of their financial or life situation, and that the transformational journey is enriched by a diversity of participants.

We recognise that what is affordable for some can be a financial stretch for others and offer a tiered pricing structure. When you book, please select the price that feels appropriate for you.

Pay it Forward Price covers the cost of your workshop and includes a contribution to our bursary fund. This will make participation possible for one or more people who otherwise would not be able to join our transformational work in the world.

Sustainable Price covers the cost of your workshop and helps us to sustain our learning and guest facilities.

Supported Price reflects a partial bursary toward the cost of your workshop and is intended for those with minor financial need.

Thank you.

Participants will need to bring some additional personal items with them – please see under “Introductory Letter” below.

Introductory Letter

Practicing the art of Esalen Massage is a very intense process, which can activate feeling experiences connected to deep parts of ourselves. Therefore, we would love to receive a few lines from you (not more than one page, please) informing us on the following:

  • Your previous massage experiences and expertise (we are aware that not everyone will have been trained as an Esalen Massage practitioner)
  • Your interest in joining us for this workshop that is offered at the Findhorn Foundation – whether you have previous experiences in community living or group activities
  • Any information about you and your health (physical, emotional and/or mental) that may seem relevant and important for us to know

Please bring with you:
Two flat single sized linen sheets (not fitted sheets), one large towel, and two pillow cases; one bottle of your favourite unscented oil (200ml should be enough for the classes); a Yoga strap. We will use the linen and the towel to cover our massage tables and ourselves as we massage.

We do have Yoga mats, however if you have your own or if you are tall, you might want to bring it with you.

If you can’t find a Yoga strap, please bring a long scarf or something made out of light material, at least 1-1½ metres in length.

Please note:
Registration for this event will be between 11:00am and 12:30pm on Monday, with the first session immediately after lunch.
