We invite you to be rejuvenated and inspired by the power and natural beauty of the magical island of Iona on our Creative Retreat. This is an opportunity to leave behind your daily tasks and routines and to delight in expressing your creativity in a supportive group environment.
On the retreat we will have group and alone time – and to inspire our creative expression, we will collect different natural materials such as stones, shells and seaweed, all of which are in abundance all over the island with its many different beaches.
We will allow ourselves to be in awe of the land and seascapes, the endless colours, shapes, patterns, and textures – from the expansive sky to the miniature worlds that can be found where the sea meets the land.
Giving ourselves permission to play, we will draw out our natural impulse to create by making mandalas, mosaics and other multimedia pieces of artwork.
Situated on the west coast of Scotland, Iona is a sacred island known as a historic place of pilgrimage. Traigh Bhan, the Findhorn Foundation’s retreat house, is situated right on the beach on the northern part of this magical island. Here you will find it very quiet and peaceful.
Comfortable and well-equipped, the house has a spacious and large porch with a stunning view on the island of Mull. Traigh Bhan is built on a power point and has its own peaceful sanctuary for prayer and meditation.
It is a perfect place to relax, retreat, to feel inspired and to rejuvenate, to fully immerse yourself in island living without being distracted. While there is no internet access, the house does have a landline telephone (for emergencies).
The schedule of the week is planned as follows:
On the Saturday the group arrives and we all take time to fully land in the house. You will be introduced to the other participants and settle into your room (shared accommodation).
The cosy kitchen is fully stocked where everyone can prepare their own breakfast and lunch. We will take turns to prepare dinner during the week and enjoy eating the meal together.
We start the week with a ritual on Saturday and end the week with a ritual on Friday.
Every day starts with an (optional) meditation in the sanctuary, when we will link in with Erraid, the Findhorn Foundation and Glastonbury.
We will gradually let go of mainland activities and take time to attune to our inner worlds. And when we are ready, we will start exploring the outer world.
Throughout the week we aim to have a combination of group activities and individual time – a healthy balance between being active and creative, and time to rest/meditate.
Some of the creative activities will be in a group setting and some will be individual. These activities will take place both inside the house and outdoors, acknowledging that the weather of the west coast of Scotland can be very changeable and that we need to be as flexible as possible.
During the ‘free’ times there is the choice to rest, meditate, sleep, read, swim, walk, explore or to visit Iona Abbey and/or the many craft shops that are available near the harbour. There might even be the opportunity to visit Columba Bay at the south side of the island.
This week doesn’t require any previous artistic experience – just a willingness to be curious, playful and to have fun.
Allow yourself to be surprised!
