Kairos, the auspicious moment NOW, great…great grandchild of Ouranos – timeless infinity – dances in adoration between the trees of remembrance and longing.
In the sacred journey of this workshop we will learn and practise two forms of meditation in movement: Mevlevi dervish turning in the mornings, and Sacred Circle Dance in the afternoons.
In the prayer in movement of the Mevlevi Dervishes, which goes back to the Sufi mystic and poet Jelaludin Rumi (13th c.), the centre of the circle is located in the dancer’s body. The turning movements allow dancers to merge with the music and with the higher consciousness that the dance invokes, celebrating the journey of the soul to God.
When for brief moments the body is borne along by the spirit, its movements may begin to shine through material substance.
By means of symbolic movements, Sacred Dance, as the dynamic expression of ‘being on the way‘, has the power to lead from the fragmentation of sensory awareness to the experience of wholeness. Through the integrating act of dedication, together with the expression of movement-symbols, the dancer, by the energy created, may manifest that spirit-body.
In our workshop we rely for inspiration on themes found in mythology, `in search of our own inner future in these past times, which enshrine much of eternity’ (R.M. Rilke). Mythic images, transformed into movement, awaken images in our soul towards a deep encounter with ourselves.
As a follow on to the workshop, on Saturday 3rd October, there will be a Mukabele Ceremony in the Universal Hall, organised by the Turning Group. For any queries regarding the Ceremony, please contact Kathryn Kusa, [email protected]
