Findhorn has been named as one of Europe’s coolest neighbourhoods to visit in 2018 alongside other top tourist destinations like Paris, Madrid and The Spanish Steps in Rome. Financial website Business Insider UK asked travel experts from sites and blogs such as Lonely Planet and Suitcase magazine for ‘quirky hyper-local’ neighbourhoods across Europe. Paul Hughes, founder of travel company ‘Rare Escapes’, nominated Findhorn and Business Insider UK placed Findhorn at number 13 above neighbourhoods in Oslo and Montenegro.
Paul’s entry said “Findhorn offers a unique insight into sustainable and alternative living while giving you the opportunity to sample a world-class natural landscape and delicious Scottish cuisine”. Paul grew up in Forres and and visited Findhorn regularly. He continues, “It wasn’t until I moved away and began exploring the world that I realised what a special and unique place Findhorn is. Findhorn is the perfect blend of culture and nature with the ever-changing bay and beaches complemented by the historic village and the special community at Findhorn. You can eat delicious local dishes, walk through a dune nature reserve to an unspoilt award-winning beach, swim with seals, surf, sail, drab a drink in a welcoming local pub and finish off by dancing to sounds of a Celtic folk band.”
