The Findhorn Foundation Park and Ecovillage is the location for a new five-part children’s series, Maddie, The Home and You, broadcast from 10 May on CBeebies at 4.25pm. Don’t worry if you’ve missed any episodes, you can catch up on BBC iPlayer!

The series, which is aimed at children aged three to seven years old, shows how people can live differently, in ways that help look after our planet.

Producers chose the Findhorn Ecovillage for the innovative ways we showcase new approaches, including a range of eco-friendly housing, water recycling, extensive food gardens, and alternative energy creation in the form of wind turbines and a biomass boiler. The series covers topics such as growing and cooking food, energy, transport, water and shopping.

The Phoenix Shop and the book swap in the phone box

TV presenter Maddie Moate and crew visited last September over two gloriously sunny weeks to film all five episodes, visiting Cullerne Gardens, homes in the Whins development and The Park, Clearwater cottage, the Phoenix Shop and the Living Machine. In an especially poignant moment, Maddie also joins KP in the Community Centre, which has since been destroyed by fire.

Findhorn Foundation spokesperson Janet Limb said: ‘We were delighted to be approached for the CBeebies TV series with Maddie Moate. Education is a big part of the Findhorn Foundation’s agenda and this series, being aimed at young children, is a fantastic way for the next generation to learn about sustainability. The Findhorn Ecovillage is often referred to as the grandfather of the ecovillage movement and so it was fitting for the series to be filmed here.’
