The Gift of Light

On Wednesday night, the light began its return journey to the northern hemisphere and this transition was marked by a beautiful ritual Spiral Walk in the Hall. A spiral of green foliage – fir, holly and berries – on the floor of the Hall led to a central candle, where each person slowly approached and lit their own personal light. The peaceful and silent walk into the spiral, one by by one, gave the opportunity to reflect on the past year and invoke a new angel quality to guide us into next year. This event is one of the most cherished moments of community life.

Eileen Caddy was present for a special community meditation and revealed the community’s angel for next year to be Obedience – reminding us to listen deeply to the soul of our community and act upon its calling.

Annual Winter Gathering
On a joyful note, the darkness of the winter solstice in Scotland was lit up and warmed as invitations went out to our friends and neighbours to join us for the annual Winter Gathering in the Hall.

Almost 400 of them arrived last Saturday evening for a convivial time of song, dance, refreshments and carol singing, firmly registering the event as a highlight of the local season. It is a special time for the Foundation and community as we welcome our neighbours for an evening dedicated to friendship, peace and . . . merrymaking! The Hall was alight with seasonal decorations and the warmth of friendship.

A wealth of performing talent included our sacred dancers, the Culbin Singers, young Gulli Skatun, and the female a capella group Sonas performing a powerful and poignant version of Bring Us Peace in our Time, O Lord. But the highlight was undoubtedly the Twelve Days of Christmas sung by an enthusiastic audience divided into 12 groups which leapt to their feet with gusto at the appropriate time. The enjoyable evening ended with the music and dancing of a traditional Scottish ceilidh.

Everyone here at Findhorn sends love and light to all corners of the world for this festive season, with the wish that all people everywhere will have a new year of joy, peace and abundance.
