Cold, hungry and smelling of sea salt Mike Smith and Ross Boardman returned to a warm and hearty welcome, including several not so wee drams, after their incredible kayaking journey which has taken them on a 600 mile seven week odyssey around North Scotland’s perilous coastline.
The duo, who were fundrasiing for the Moray Steiner school, set off on August 26,
paddling via Inverness, the Caledonian Canal, Fort William and the western islands. The warmth of August and basking sharks gave way to cold temperatures, storm warnings and dangerous seas which kept them on dry land for several days.
Mike Smith decared on landing at Findhorn Bay,”We have been living on soup and noodles but countless people offered us support and the kindness shown by strangers has been a real eye-opener”. Mike was welcomed by his four children and wife Johanna.
