Virtual Tour: The Park

THE ORIGINAL CARAVAN
The founders of the Findhorn Foundation Community were Peter and Eileen Caddy and Dorothy Maclean. After several years of managing the Cluny Hill Hotel in Forres together, using spiritual principles and following the instructions contained in Eileen’s guidance from a source she experienced as the God within, they moved to this site in the Findhorn Bay Caravan Park and set up home. Peter and Eileen and their three young sons lived in this caravan for seven years. They built a small annex in which Dorothy lived. The caravan is now used as office space and Eileen still lives here in The Park.

THE ORIGINAL GARDEN
Next to the Original Caravan. In March 1963 Peter started a garden to grow vegetables to help feed the family. He began by putting up a fence next to the caravan to provide protection from the wind and then planted some lettuces. By the end of that first summer, a garden had been created all around the caravan. Peter had very little experience of gardening and his first attempts were not very successful. Then Dorothy found that, through her meditation, she could contact what she called ‘devas’, the archetypal formative forces of light or energy that underlie all forms in nature—plants, trees, rivers, etc. She asked them for advice about how to grow the various vegetables and she received instructions that produced the spectacular results which made the Findhorn gardens famous and attracted people from all over the world.

THE SANCTUARY
By 1968 other people had joined them and Eileen received guidance that they should build a simple sanctuary where they could meditate and meet together. Meditation—taking time in silence to listen inwardly—has always been a vital part of the Community. Community meditation times are currently 8:35am and 5.40pm—when everyone is encouraged to meditate together. Each meditation focuses on a particular theme, such as peace, light or healing , and is 20 minutes long.

GENERAL OFFICE
The General Office and other offices are in this ‘downtown’ area of the Park near the Sanctuary. Post is distributed within the Foundation from here, and staff and residential guests have photocopying and faxing facilities etc.
