The Tamana Pioneers Steel Orchestra, from the foot of Mount Tamana in North East Trinidad are winners of the Most Promising Band trophy. The Orchestra have toured the UK several times, participating in the Aberdeen International Youth Festival on each occasion as well as taking part in carnivals including the Notting Hill Carnival. Sharing the bill is Joel Sebunjo from Senegal (pictured), a master multi-instrumentalist and vocalist born in Uganda and raised in Senegal. His music reflects the diversity of his musical journey that saw him come in contact with genres such as Mbalax, Malian Blues, Ndaga, salasa and Rhai. It’s always a high-energy show with the AIYF so don’t miss it.
