Exploring Community Life

Astrid Gude & Foundation Faculty

Exploring Community Life (ECL) is a great way to have time in the community to broaden your experience, or to give you time and space for integrating your experience following another programme. You may also find this to be an attractive option for coming back to visit and reconnect with the community.

The week is less of a group experience than Experience Week and you are more integrated into the life and working rhythms of the community. The group is generally smaller and the programme will run even for one person. It includes time in work departments to become more familiar with our guiding principle of 'work is love in action'. There are also sharings and, depending on the size of the group, there is a group project, a nature outing and, if there is interest, a taste of the Transformation Game. Evenings provide opportunities to join in with community activities and explore different aspects of living here, which may include spiritual and personal development, creative arts and sustainable living. These elements are also part of the Special Exploring Community Life Weeks.

The group is generally smaller and the programme will run even for one person, but with a small group, the content and input will be lighter.

If you are thinking about a longer term commitment to staying at Findhorn, ECL can give you a good sense of what it is like to live at Findhorn and it is a prerequisite for joining some of our longer term programmes such as Living in Community and the Foundation Programme.

'I wanted to ground this experience so I did an Exploring Community Life programme. We were a smaller group and we decided, as part of our activities, to do psychosynthesis exercises, dance, draw a mandala, meditate and visit Cawdor Castle. In the afternoon we experienced service as love in action by being in the kitchen, gardens or homecare departments.'
