14 March - 24 April 2015

Spiritual Deepening is a 6-week journey to engage with the depth of your own inner knowing. The programme is designed to assist you in weaving fresh insights from your experience into daily life. It is an opportunity to practice sustainability on all levels.

If you are wanting a supportive and stimulating environment, in which to look at and go deeper into your inner connection, Spiritual Deepening offers you a powerful, holistic experience, learning the wisdom from your own unique body and being, and bringing it into the framework of day to day living and your soul's journey. It can be a heart opening process during which you can discover more of your capacity to live passionately in life.

You will receive the best that the Findhorn Foundation community has to offer by engaging with our daily rhythms, practices and community members. It will be experiential learning, where you are in charge of your own journey, guided and held by skilled focalisers on a daily basis.

Integration time includes journaling, a mindful practice day once a week, a silent retreat, creative expression and body practice, ritual, spiritual mentoring and reviews of your personal purpose and inner unfolding.

SpiritualDeepeningImageIf you are intending to live within or around the community, Spiritual Deepening can serve as a step on the path to a deeper experience of the Findhorn Foundation, and to participation in the Living Essentials Apprentice Programme.

Experience Week plus either an Exploring Community Life, a Being In Community or a Spiritual Practice are prerequisite.

I arrived at Findhorn on a cool and sunny day in early March to begin the twelve week programme known as Spiritual Deepening. Gathering together with a small group of people from around the world, I felt a curious combination of excitement and anxiety. We ranged in chronological age from the 30s to the 70s and yet I sensed that we were all about the same age on the inside. The first couple of days were devoted to getting to know one another individually and as a group as we shared the stories of our lives. I recalled the expression that "we are all spiritual beings having a human experience."

The next several weeks were both interesting and cathartic. Many of the therapeutic modalities that are used as a basis for inner work at Findhorn were presented to us. Some were familiar to me and others were not. All, however, had their special gifts to bestow on my psyche and what I understood to be my comfortable psychological framework. I held on tightly in the beginning and then gradually began to see the futility of such attachment. It was my ego that needed to have everything in my life in perfect order and happiness and harmony. My soul, however, called out for more. There were extraordinary moments when the unfolding was not so gradual, more like a bolt of lightning that had been building up for many years. In those unfamiliar and uneasy times, I felt safely held as if in a container of love.

The programme allowed abundant time for meditation, contemplation, expansion and deepening of my spiritual practice and an engagement in the life and spirit of one of the most open, honest and loving communities in the world. There were many opportunities to identify and shed light upon the wounds I carry in life, thereby allowing my armour to crack and my shields to be set down... my own idea of 'turning swords into plowshares.' My goals were to be more transparent, more open and more loving.

I have been on many retreats in various spiritual traditions but never one as long, deep and loving as the one I experienced at Findhorn. Perhaps it was due to the programme structure with abundant time for learning, contemplation and self expression, or perhaps it was the joy (and sometimes tension) of being on the journey with a group of multicultural fellow travelers, perhaps it was Kairos (God's time) or perhaps it was simply the "Magic of Findhorn." And now I think that the gift of the retreat need not be attributed to anything other than grace and the blessing of being in the right place at the right time. What I experienced was most profound and beautiful. I have come to realise that the Spiritual Deepening Programme was, for me, simply about understanding, experiencing and loving the person I am and was created to be. Thank you Findhorn!
